PROFESSOR JONATHON HUNTER

2nd DEGREE BLACK BELT - HEAD INSTRUCTOR

IBJJF American National Champion

Starting his martial arts career early in high school wrestling, Jonathon became infatuated with all aspects of combat sports. After graduation, Jonathon moved to Arizona and made an immediate transition into the MMA scene back in 2006. After training and competing in the Phoenix Metropolitan area from 2006-2010, Jonathon made a move to Dallas, Texas looking to expand his experience in traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai. His Journey brought him to the doorstep of 2x NO-GI Masters World Champion Professor JD Shelley (Romero “Jacare” Cavalcanti Black Belt) and Muay Thai Arjan Carlos Moreno (Arjan under Chansadeth “Cheetah” Chanthanao) of Cheetah Muay Thai/AMTA in 2011. Reaching the level of Blue Belt under Professor JD Shelley, Jonathon was looking to expand his knowledge in the art and philosophy of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

With the recommendation of Arjan Carlos Moreno, both he and his Muay Thai instructor made the move to train with the 2nd Degree Gracie Black Belt Professor Marcus Neuenschwander (Carlos Gracie Jr. 2nd Degree Black Belt). Jonathon’s love grew drastically for the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Training hard over the course of the next few years, Jonathon was able to compete in the IBJJF World Championships, advance his way through Purple Belt, and was promoted to Brown Belt in September of 2014. Unfortunate circumstances forced Professor Marcus Neuenschwander back to his hometown (Belo Horizonte) in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, opening a new opportunity for Jonathon to study under Brazilian Professor Pedro Mello (Alexandre de Souza Black Belt). After a short 12 months, Professor Pedro Mello had decided to return to Brazil.

Looking for a new home, Jonathon found his way to Shebaro Jiu Jitsu and WeDefy Foundation Headquarters in McKinney, TX. Studying under head instructor and 4th Degree Black Belt Alan Shebaro (1st Gen. Carlos Machado Black Belt), Jonathon was awarded his Black Belt October 30th, 2016. Having the opportunity to open his own academy in 2019, Jonathon was able to re-affiliate with his Jiu-Jitsu roots under Marcus Neuenschwander and the CJJF Team. Professor Jonathon is passionate about competing and continues to actively fight in some of the most prestigious tournaments in the world.
