My kids look forward to going to class all the time. Professor Jon and the staff are very welcoming and encouraging to the children. My kids are learning the importance of self-respect, self-discipline, and perseverance. Thank you for all that you do CJJF North Texas!
— Marisela Olguin

Summary:
As someone that was beginning my Jiu-Jitsu journey with extremely little experience in the sport, I cannot emphasize enough the positive impact of starting with CJJF. For individuals looking to start BJJ for the first time or prospective competitors, this academy should be at the top of the list.

For the beginner:
Culture is everything, and a culture of humility and growth is highly protected and held at CJJF in Prosper. For the newcomer bringing their own level of nervousness or uncertainty, these doubts are immediately disbanded by both members and instructors. It is continually established that each member is a part of the same academy, and the collective body seeks to make each other better. Belt ranks are recognized for the work and mastery they have achieved, while white belts (including myself) are made to feel extremely welcomed, valued, and never looked down upon. An extra level of service to the beginner comes in video tutorials including how to tie your belt.

For the “initiated”:
Every young jedi needs a competent master to lead the way. To those that have experience in BJJ and may be looking to compete, the instructors at CJJF are more than capable to take an individual’s skill to the next level. Professor Jon makes an extra effort to understand his students’ specific goals for the sport. It should also be noted that the instructors also recognize the value in training competitively while staying injury-free, something the wise athlete should also value! What about the Studio?A prime location with attention to detail. The mats are always kept in pristine condition, and personal grooming and washing of gis are the standard. It is a brand new studio, and definitely still looks that way!Jiu-Jitsu has changed the way I view myself and many aspects of life in general. I’m thankful for CJJF that has become “my” academy, and I know anyone else would be too. Schedule that free intro session and I’ll see you on the mats!
— James Patrick Ford

World-class instruction, amazing new training facility.

Rather you’re a parent looking to install and compliment core values within your child or an adult that is searching for more personal growth, stress relief and workouts.

Most importantly, I am writing this review today to express my point of pride. In a confused and tumultuous world we have been living in recently, CJJF TX has been a bastion of sanity, encouragement, respect, accountability, and most of all team work and growth for me. Personal growth.

CJJf is a locally-owned training facility that is focused on long-term value of its student base not short term gain. The instruction and members are simply amazing.

Come try and class, you will not be disappointed.
— Kevin Hanna

My strong willed son was very hesitant to join, just because it was something different. He struggled to step inside the building but once he finally joined the class there was no looking back. He enjoys going to every class. The atmosphere and training lived up to our hopes.
— Lindsey Fiihr

My son has grown leaps and bounds since joining CJJF. His excitement about learning and getting better is consistently fed by the great coaches, good atmosphere, and expert feedback on how to perform at a high-level everyday. The most important lesson my son is learning is that the biggest factor for success is about showing up and working hard everyday even when you don’t want to even when you don’t want to. This has extended over into his school and home life as well. Could not ask for a better experience for him and our family.
— Troy Sacco

This gym is fantastic. Professor John is a great teacher and the place is kept in tip top shape. Super friendly and lovable people. They also do yoga and Muai Thai. I’ve learned more practical street defense here in 2 months than 2 years of high school wrestling! Couldn’t recommend this place enough for both adults and young ones.
— Connor Mangus

This school is excellent! The lessons last a week which allows you more time to learn a movement and the following weeks continue to build off that knowledge. That has really allowed me to get a better understanding of the various movements we learn. The men and women that go here are also really helpful and the goal always seems to be for everyone to get better together. Professor Jon has built an environment that fosters learning and is very responsive to your questions. Couldn’t recommend this place more.
— Kris Phaup

The best instructors! My 7 year old has ADHD and since we have started the classes he is more focused and really enjoys the classes. I highly recommend Caveirinha Jiu-Jitsu Family Academy. They are very patient with the little ones and take the time to give individual attention.
— The Bros

Great instructors and environment
— Ryan Mergeler

John is a great instructor, he has a very clean gym, and has a relaxed informal school so he’s easily approachable and will always answer your questions
— Above World

Being brand new to Jiu Jitsu and trying to find a place for me and my 2 kids (6 & 9) I wasn’t sure what to expect. Jonathon invited me in and answered all my questions and has been a great coach to me and my kids. The kids love going and have enjoyed every class. Super family friendly atmosphere and a great place to train. All the other students and coaches I have met have been welcoming, respectful and willing to help me learn. Jonathon and his staff keep the kids engaged and safe and really make it fun for them while teaching them Jiu Jitsu. I highly recommend coming in to see for yourself.
— Robert Kilmer

Attention is given to every single student and the atmosphere is welcoming. Professor Jon and Professor Marcus bring so much knowledge to the mat. Self defense and sport jiujitsu is taught in every single class. No details left out. The kids class is just as great and is a very happy place for then to learn. 100% family environment. Awesome place to be!
— Neil Hamilton

The professors are awesome! They are kind and helpful. They want you to learn the best Jiu Jitsu. Everyone is welcoming and friendly. Great gym to be apart of!
— Ashly Winstead

I’ve had my son train at three local BJJ schools. One was a Mc Dojo all about belting kids for cash, another was completely disorganized resembling an after school playground, and now both my boys train at CJJF.I am happy with the training they receive here. The instructor-to-student ratio is excellent, and that is crucial in my opinion. Typically the instructor has a few assistants. The head instructor is a black belt who is also a good teacher. Being a black belt in BJJ is quite an accomplishment, but it doesn’t automatically mean one can teach. Jonathon is a good teacher. The kids have fun, learn practical tactics, and show continued improvement. There are BJJ gyms opening up all over the metroplex. This one is a good one.
— Steven Jarosz

I started taking my son to CJJF a month ago and it has been a wonderful experience! The lead instructor (Jon Hunter) is outstanding with kids, and he provides excellent instruction for all to learn. Jon and his staff are very welcoming and spend the time necessary to help you find the right program suitable for you. I highly recommend CJJF to anyone interesting in getting into Jiu Jitsu.
— Dan Buholtz

Professor Jon and the entire team are amazing. My 7 year old has learned so much since he started attending CJJF. He loves the class and the coaches. They are extremely great with the kids and teaching them techniques but also important life skills.
— Jacqelyn Brian

CJJF is awesome! Professor Jon is a great teacher, very professional and a great communicator. I’ve been coming here for several weeks now and thoroughly enjoy every session. He’s also great with kids! My son also trains here and has never been more excited about a physical activity. You won’t find a better Jiu-Jitsu trainer in this area, that’s for sure! I look forward to continuing here for years to come!
— Jonathan Negoslawski

CJJF is amazing! Very clean and the children’s class is one of the most efficiently run classes I’ve ever seen. Plenty of one on one instruction and hands on training. Our daughter has flourished in a short time!
— Mr. Taylor

I have been in BJJ for nearly four years as therapy for post-concussion syndrome after sustaining a traumatic brain injury while fighting a structure fire. Three of those years I belonged to two other academies in the area. Neither served as a good long term fit for me for what I was trying to achieve. I am a veteran and a firefighter/paramedic. For me, to achieve my goals, I require an organized and structured system with consistent feedback. Upon meeting Professor Jonathon, my first impression of CJJF was extremely positive and hopeful. By the time I was done with my first class my mind was made up. I received more coaching and feedback on my first day at CJJF than a six weeks at my former academy.

Since joining CJJF in March 2020, the structure has remained consistent, motivating, and fun. Professor Jonathon is very patient, easy going, and very passionate about teaching what he loves. He has created a positive atmosphere people want to be a part of. Two of those people are my own kids! Since becoming part of the CJJF team, they have built relationships with their classmates who share their interest in personal growth through jiu-jitsu.

It is my opinion that every kid needs to be in BJJ. We avoid thinking it, but the world can be a cruel place. As parents, we cannot always be around to protect our children. BJJ provides the tools needed for our children to protect themselves. Kids are provided with confidence, exercise, humility, accountability, and the ability to overcome adversity as they are things students are confronted with in every class, but in a positive, safe environment. How are these tools not essential early on in a child’s life? As a dad, BJJ is not an extracurricular activity for my kids. It is education. An education my kids will be required to participate in until they graduate high school. I believe it will serve them well in life even after BJJ, if they choose. I recommend the same for all developing youth. And if I were to pick any school in the DFW area, CJJF would be at the top of my list!
— Jason Reyes

CJJF Texas has brought immense value to my life. Professor Jon and Dr. Matt are both very professional leaders and Jiu Jitsu instructors. I go to as many classes as I can because of how much I enjoy it and would recommend to anybody that needs a community or a great sport to be a part of.
— Michael Hogman

I’ve trained BJJ at two other gyms and I have to say this is a very professional and well organized gym. Coach Hunter is very knowledgeable and very experienced instructor, the culture is great, and it’s such a clean establishment. After meeting so many of the Caveirinha Jiu Jitsu family members over the past month the atmosphere has been very humbling and welcoming to learning BJJ with emphasis on technique and skill. They offer free trial classes. You won’t be disappointed!
— Tony Pullen

Great place to train!! Family friendly environment and excellent instruction! I would highly recommend this place for kids and adults!
— Dr. Matt Thomas

Such a great atmosphere to train. My whole family trains and we all love it. The kids classes offer structure and discipline, and yet my boys enjoy every second of the class. The adult classes have very flexible options and always have plenty of training partners. I love that we have several women training as well. Professor Marcus and Jonathan are knowledgeable and patient. We also started doing the yoga class and were blown away. It has really helped us with our jiujitsu! I would highly recommend!!! 10 stars!
— Nicci Benavides

The gym and it’s members are super welcoming! Everyone makes it super easy to learn and be apart of! Literally the only thing that I will wake up at 5:00 am to attend (lol).
— Destiny Monjaraz

Great instructor and class. The facility is clean and spacious, the classes are taught by black belt level instructors with attention to details. For beginners, there are uniforms provided and cleaned by the facility to make attending the classes easy. The Yoga class offers a welcome stretch after the vigor of the BJJ class.
— David Sun

Excellent spot for BJJ and Yoga. Classes morning, noon, and night to fit any schedule. Great coaching and a welcoming environment. Come Train!
— Brad Henson

Took their women’s self defense class. WOW! What a great experience. An hour was not long enough. Can’t wait to come back and learn more about being a BAMF.
— Shea Germany

I’ve been training at cjjf since it opened. I have trained at other gyms in the area but Have never had the family/community experience that I have at cjjf. I have known Professor Jon for a few years now. He is an excellent teacher that has a passion for jiujitsu that puts his students first and will go above and beyond to help them reach their goals. He provides a fun , family environment and is a great all around person. The people here are also very nice and welcoming and everyone wants to help everyone get better.

I highly recommend it !
— Shane Kimler

The first time I spoke with Professor Jonathon, I knew he was building a community with care and intention. He invited me to create a yoga program at CJJF Texas, and having no previous connection to martial arts, I was prepared to feel like the odd one out. That was not the case at all—Jon and the members were welcoming and committed to making me feel at home.

I jumped into training Jiu-Jitsu after a few months of being involved at the academy. My only regret is not starting sooner! The class structure is solid, the training partners are helpful and supportive, and I always leave feeling inspired and ready to come back.

As a student, the classes have helped me build strength, body awareness, confidence, and partnership skills. As a former studio manager, the quality of the programming, the care for members, and the support for newcomers is among the best I’ve seen.

I’m grateful to be a member and contributor to this academy. If you’ve ever been curious about training BJJ (for yourself or your family), this is a great place to start the journey!
— Aubrey Klein

CJJF is a family-first Jiu-Jitsu Academy. I’ve been here for over a year, and the instruction is world-class. Coach Hunter is an excellent instructor whose teaching style bends to the needs of the student. What really makes this place special is the fun, relaxed vibe that is welcoming and inclusive. Even my kids train here (girl 8, boy 6), and the positive difference in them is obvious. Their ability to focus and their self-confidence have both improved. Highly recommended!!!
— Carlos Arias

Great coaching and studio. Professor Jon is awesome, my 5 year old has learned a tremendous amount of BJJ and more importantly her discipline and self control has improved as well.
— Gabriel Lattero

We have three children from eight to sixteen years of age; girls and boys that attend. Their instructors are excellent communicators and make each class fun and enjoyable while stressing learning, discipline and hard work. We have attended other academies and this one is by far our favorite. Our kids are really learning Jiu Jitsu and it is amazing to see them progress and earn higher ranks. They actually have to EARN the ranks which makes it meaningful. They look forward to going each day and that alone is a testimony to how wonderful the academy is at motivating and training the kids.
— Naomi Mier

We looked around at other gyms in the area and it wasn’t even a question of where our daughter felt the most welcomed and comfortable at. Professor Jon and the other coaches truly care about the kids and have displayed remarkable patience. We are so thankful to be supporting this local business in our community!
— Hanna Lim

I’ve been training BJJ for 7 years, and have trained at several gyms. This gym is by far at the top of my list. I would give it 6 stars but it only goes up to 5. Great environment for adults and kids. My kids are always begging me to take them to class. Professor Johnathan Hunter is a great instructor to both the kids and adults. Unlike the other gyms I’ve been to, I have never heard a parent or kid complain about anything related to the gym or the coaching. I highly recommend this place for beginner and advanced BJJ students
— Antonio Barletta

Professor Jonathan Hunter has put together an exceptional training program at CJJF! He is truly invested in advancing the Jiu-Jitsu of each student. The depth of skill and the friendly demeanor of the training partners at this gym are a testament to the culture Jonathan has established. I would highly recommend giving CJJF a try!
— Timmay22

I just joined the CJJF Academy 2 days ago, after visiting a few others. It has a big easy parking, very clean floor mat, super affordable, great hours, multiple modalities taught, amazing student camaraderie and being close to my house is priceless. Jonathon, the instructor, listened to my old injuries and concerns about doing JJ. He put my mind at ease by explaining the path to follow in my training.

The Yoga classes are great to stretch and relax the sore muscles. Another plus is Aubrey, the Yoga teacher, is also a BJJ practitioner. So she knows well what to work on. Check the school out, the first class is FREE, so what do you got to lose, a few fat calories and sweat?
— Red Baron

Beautiful facility. Professor Jonathan Hunter is an outstanding instructor who is passionate about preserving traditional Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
— Terry Stephens

My son loves it!
— sheila ross

This is the most family friendly, female- friendly, inviting jiu jitsu gym I have been to in a really long time. Everyone is respectful, and uplifting of others rather than trying to smash them.

The kids program is incredible, teaching respect and discipline while still having fun.

The adult program is fantastic, allowing for modifications when you have an injury or other limitations preventing you from doing a particular technique. Jon Hunter has built an awesome program, and makes learning fun. The women who train here are amazing people, and great training partners! My whole family trains, and I love seeing them on the mat!

There are gym social events monthly, promoting an even more welcoming environment. I’m so proud to be a part of this gym family, and can’t wait to see it grow even more!
— Sarah Hamilton

Kudos to CJJF North Texas Professors and @cjjf_northtexas @jonathonhunter_bjj They take great care of the kiddos. Great environment! My 3 year old had a blast... The older kids are well mannered and helpful. Perfect culture to learn the art.
